Where to Put a Crystal Tree (and Where Not To)

Every home has a shelf nobody planned. A stack of unread books, a cup, a lamp that stays on. That is where a crystal tree belongs, because that is the corner of the room already half-lit and half-forgotten.

Good spots

• The entryway shelf. Where your keys land. You pass it twice a day without meaning to.
• A desk corner. Out of the way of your elbows, inside your field of view.
• Beside a window that gets morning light. The stones catch it beautifully in the first hour of the day.

Three places to avoid

• Bathrooms. Constant humidity dulls the finish and works into the wire over months.
• Prolonged direct sun. Some dyed and treated stones fade. A shelf that gets bright light is fine; a windowsill facing all-day sun is not.
• Anywhere a small child can reach it. The base is solid, but the branches are wire and stone.

One thing to check when it arrives

Put it down, then look at it from where you will actually sit. If it is wrong there, move it. The object is not precious in a way that forbids being handled — it was strung by hand and it can be moved by hand.
